As a result I got a good foundational education in networking for free. I made sure to pay attention to my training and asked lots of questions. My first real education in IT work was when I was doing home security support and volunteered for cross-training into home network support. Study for your certs on the clock and pay attention to training/learning opportunities. I think the best thing for people taking tech call center jobs is to have a plan for how long they'll be there and make sure you make the best of your time. Working in a massive cubicle farm with white noise in the background and no entertainment? That's the nightmare right there. WFH so you can watch Netflix in your PJ's while you make banal chitchat waiting on that router reset? Boring but comfortable. Obviously both of those exist on a spectrum and company culture/policy will make a difference too. If most of your calls are resetting routers prepare to be bored and emotionally exhausted.
High difficulty support is going to leave you more mentally exhausted, but it will hone your skills better as well as engage you. Technicality of the calls is the other big factor. It's very easy to settle into a job where you watch netflix and browse reddit for half your shift and delay your career spending too much time there. Low volume is a lot more manageable but the challenge then becomes staying productive for you. High volume is not for everyone and will grate on most people.
